Work with Technology

Computer Music
At Fort Knox High School, I teach a Computer Music class that is geared towards students with little or no background in music.  I have develop projects that allow them to learn about musical genres and how to mix their own pieces with attention to musical elements and technical elements.  Examples of the projects and student products can be found on my Home page under the KMEA Conference Materials.

Web Design
From the time that Microsoft first came out with Front Page during my early teaching career, I have been interested in webdesign and technology.  In my first job, I recognized that the district's website was in need of a redesign.  I secured permission and the login credentials for the site and completely renovated the site.  Since that was in about 1997, I no longer have that site.  However, that was the starting point for my interest and pursuit of technology.

At the University of Cincinnati, I enrolled in several educational technology classes.  Among these were web design classes providing instruction on HTML, Javascript, ASP coding, and image mapping.  This solidified my knowledge and skill with web design and it is a tool I have used since throughout my career.  One of my most recent sites was for an Appalachian music class.  Please follow this link to access it:  http://www.siliconcircle.com/appalachianmusic/.

Most recently, I was elected webmaster for the Fourth District Band Directors Association.  I am currently in the process of revamping the whole site.  You can view it at fdbda.com.

Distance Education
An area of study during my doctoral work was in distance education, and more specifically in online learning.  I was able to explore concepts and issues in eLearning, such as course design, platforms, assessment, and research.  You can access my review of literature on eLearning in teacher education here:   Review of Literature.

Music, Educational, and Office Programs
Beyond my interest and skill in Internet-based technology, I utilize other software in my teaching, planning, and reporting.  These programs include Sibelius, Finale, Audacity, SmartBoards, and the Microsoft Office Suite.  Having worked in various temporary office jobs, I have become adept at creating and managing databases, merging data and forms, and creating templates.
